Exhibitor Spotlight: Biying Tan

Biying Tan is an illustrator studying at UCLAN. Recent projects include mid-autumn festival greeting card designs and The Body Shop D&AD brief. When Biying designs she can be flexible to using a variety of techniques. These include watercolour, chalk, pen and Photoshop. She finds that using a different tool to draw the same thing can achieve different artistic effects. She has created cards using watercolour sketches to reflect the Chinese traditional festival atmosphere, finding inspiration from her heritage.

Exhibitor Spotlight: Ben Pickup

Ben Pickup is an illustrator based in Preston, Lancashire. He mostly uses plain black pencils
as they allow him to produce detailed realistic drawings. He uses coloured pencils occasionally and recently has discovered a way to colour his pencil drawings digitally. His work consists of a realistic sense, however Ben  is inspired by more surreal work and likes to bring in other elements and bend reality.

Exhibitor Spotlight: Aby Helme

Today we shine the spotlight on Aby Helme.

Aby lives in a little rural town, so her work is often influenced by the domesticity of day to day life there. In that sense she focuses on making honest reportage from what she sees around her. She likes portraying people, or places, exactly the way they are, be the subject bustling with acticity or stillness.

She prefers to produce work through traditional methodsm charcoal and ink in particular, and she's not afraid to make mistakes. She's not afraid to draw different things either, so I try to visually explore different shapes and sizes. She also experiments with with printmaking from time to time, as she likes to keep a varied practice.

Check out her Facebook page and her Etsy store.
